Bite-Sized Space News

• SpaceX launched its 26th ISS resupply mission, hoisting roughly 7,700 pounds of hardware, food, CubeSats, and scientific experiments to the station. This was flight number 54 for SpaceX this year, meaning they have exceeded a cadence of more than one launch per week in 2022.
• The Orion capsule broke Apollo 13’s record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth by a human-rated spacecraft on November 26th and has now started making its way back to Earth. The capsule has also been capturing some truly amazing photos of the Earth and the Moon, including this beauty of our home in the distance:

• The Shenzhou-15 crew arrived at China's Tiangong space station (check out the launch footage!) with three Taikonauts, and the Shenzhou-14 crew returned to Earth after six months in space, which marks that station’s first in-orbit crew handover. Tiangong is the second permanently inhabited space outpost, after the International Space Station. There are now 10 people in space from four countries – China: 3, United States: 3, Russia: 3, Japan: 1
• ​SpaceX announced the creation of Starshield, which expands on Starlink satellite technology for military and government applications, as a way to power end-to-end encrypted communications and host classified payloads, as well as launch customized payloads for government customers over its satellites.

Town Hall with Open Lunar

​Listen to a recording of today’s town hall where we addressed some major Phase 2 governance issues, including the recent retroactive compensation votes, and also welcomed a few members of the Open Lunar Foundation for a panel discussion on ways we can collaborate to make our mission to the Moon a reality.

Earlier this year, MoonDAO voted to sponsor five fellowships for the Open Lunar Foundation, an organization that shares many of our values, as they strive to create an open and collaborative space on the moon. The first hour of the town hall was devoted to MoonDAO governance issues and the second to the Open Lunar discussion with great dialogue and ideas about where MoonDAO should focus our efforts to make a lunar settlement a reality.

Also, you’re not going to want to miss next week’s town hall with another special guest: Robert Zubrin from the Mars Society. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out his book The Case for Space, which a few members are currently reading as part of the MoonDAO Book Club.

Open Votes

​MDP-57 & 58 voting period ends in just a few hours so be sure to get your vote in! These two proposals are considering whether MoonDAO should endorse and partially finance a professional, film festival-quality feature-length documentary to share the story of our second astronaut, Yan KeJun, who will launch in 2023 on a future Blue Origin flight.

The first proposal is to give MoonDAO’s blessing or approval to work with the proposed documentary team and the second is to determine how much seed funding to provide for the documentary, with the rest of the funding to be sought out via a crowd fundraising campaign with StudioDAO. If you enjoyed that short Dude Perfect launch video, then you should be excited about the potential of this deeper dive into the entire launch experience!
