Welcome to your weekly newsletter from MoonDAO, where we keep you updated on the latest developments in the world of space exploration and the progress of the MoonDAO community.

MoonDAO Updates

MoonDAO Live Today

We had to postpone last week’s MoonDAO Live, but join us today at 7pm EDT with astrophysicist and astronomer Dr. Jonathan McDowell. Jonathan is based at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As part of the team at the Chandra X-ray Center, he dives into the mysteries of black holes, quasars, and X-ray sources within galaxies. Not only does he explore the depths of the universe, but he also crafts data analysis software to aid the X-ray astronomy community.

$MOONEY Token Discussion

There are ongoing discussions and debate regarding how we should utilize or allocate the remaining $MOONEY tokens within our treasury. There's currently 629 million $MOONEY in our treasury available for allocation. It's important to emphasize that $MOONEY has a finite supply, and these debates are over how we should utilize the non-circulating supply held in our treasury.

Our founder, Pablo, has drafted a proposal outlining potential allocations for these remaining tokens, as well as an analysis of all the previous distributions from the treasury, including previous contributor rewards.

For a comprehensive understanding of the proposal and its suggested allocations, check out the full proposal for more details.

Bite-Sized Space News

Crew-7 is Home

Four astronauts departed from the International Space Station (ISS) yesterday, marking the end of their six-month mission. Crew-7 was an international crew formed by NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, Andreas Mogensen of the European Space Agency (ESA), Satoshi Furukawa from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.

Their departure was broadcast live on NASA Television as they bid farewell to their orbiting home. The crew's mission, spanning 199 days, culminated with a splashdown off the coast of Florida early this morning, aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon Endurance.

During their tenure on the ISS, Crew-7 conducted numerous experiments, managed cargo shipments, and hosted the private Axiom Space AX-3 crew. Notably, Moghbeli participated in the historic fourth-ever all-woman spacewalk alongside her NASA colleague Loral O'Hara.

Blue Moon

Blue Origin says that they will launch the Blue Moon Mark 1 robotic lander to the Moon next year. This launch is part of a series of self-funded flights aimed at testing and refining critical landing systems. Blue Origin plans to use the insights gained from these flights to enhance the Mark II lander, which is slated to carry astronauts to the Moon for NASA's Artemis V mission by the end of the decade.

Additionally, as an approved lander provider for NASA's CLPS program, Blue Origin aims to pitch and deploy more Mark 1 landers to transport the agency's science and technology payloads to the lunar surface. With a payload capacity of 3,000 kilograms, the Mark 1 surpasses all current CLPS landers except SpaceX's Lunar Starship.

Starship Updates

SpaceX is gearing up for its highly anticipated third Starship test flight scheduled for later this week at its facilities in Boca Chica, Texas. The upcoming launch marks a significant milestone as SpaceX attempts to fly the world's largest rocket for the third time. Recent preparations include the installation of the flight abort system and testing of the water deluge system at the launch pad, crucial for successful launches.

Engineers are conducting various tests, such as tank pressure checks and static fires, to ensure everything is in order before the launch. SpaceX has implemented several upgrades to the rocket, including a new engine control system and improvements to minimize leaks and reduce the risk of fires. The upcoming test flight will also involve testing in-space propellant transfer for NASA's Moon lander missions.

Tim Dodd, the Everyday Astronaut, has put together a great video overview comparing the changes made to the booster and pad from flight test #2.
