🚀 BREAKING: MoonDAO's Second Astronaut Revealed! 🚀

The anticipation has been sky-high and we know you've all been waiting to find out who's going...

We apologize for having to delay the announcement last week, but we're thrilled to announce that the winner of MoonDAO's Ticket to Space contest is none other than @ElonMusk!

Elon will finally get the chance to GO TO SPACE! He's all set to embark on an epic journey aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket.

Don't let your dreams be memes!

🚀 P.S. 😝 Stay tuned for more (real) updates on our second astronaut. 😝 In the meantime, give this April Fool's joke a like + share on X or Instagram.

Executive Branch Proposal

In more serious news, there’s a major proposal up on Snapshot, right now! MDP-137 is the yearly Executive Branch budget for MoonDAO operations from Q2 2024 to Q1 2025. It includes the continuation of the current roles in the executive branch, as well as the addition of a second elected leader (Astronaut) that will begin their three-year term on August 1st 2024.

The first iteration of the “Executive Branch” started on August 1st, 2023 and ran for eight months, wrapping up at the end of March. Budgeting for a year-long fiscal cycle also aligns this proposal with the recently approved amendments to the MoonDAO Constitution.

Total Cost: 73.68 ETH

Please be sure to read the full proposal and cast your vote by April 6th.

Bite-Sized Space News

JAXA's Resurrection

Japan's moon lander, the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), has defied expectations by surviving its second lunar night. Despite landing at an angle that initially hindered its solar panels, SLIM has successfully awoken the vehicle once again and sent back new images.

JAXA, Japan's space agency, has nicknamed SLIM the "Moon Sniper" for its precision landing technology. Despite challenges and setbacks during the landing, SLIM's resilience marks a significant achievement for JAXA, boosting confidence after previous mission failures.

Surviving the lunar night poses significant challenges for landers due to the extreme cold temperatures, which impact the functionality of crucial components, such as batteries and electronics. Engineers must design landers capable of enduring these harsh environments, implementing thermal insulation and power-saving measures to ensure survival during the long, two-week lunar nights.

Additionally, positioning solar panels for optimal exposure to sunlight becomes crucial for generating power during the following lunar day. Overcoming these obstacles is essential for the success of all future lunar exploration missions.

SpaceX Triple Double-Header

SpaceX had a busy Saturday evening, launching two rockets from Florida within a span of less than five hours. The first launch was a Falcon 9 rocket that deployed the Eutelsat 36D telecommunications satellite from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Shortly after, another Falcon 9 lifted off, carrying 23 of SpaceX's Starlink broadband satellites from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

A third scheduled Starlink mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California was canceled due to weather, which would have made for a very impressive triple-header. Even so, the scheduled deployments really demonstrate the company's confidence and capability for rapid and efficient orbital missions.

The triple-header milestone will have to wait for another day...

Upcoming Launches

  • SpaceX Falcon 9 | Starlink Group 7-18 on Mon Apr 1, 2024 9:30 PM GMT-5 from SLC-4E, Vandenberg SFB, California, USA
  • CASC Long March 2C on Tue Apr 2, 2024 5:55 PM GMT-5 from LC-3, Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China
  • SpaceX Falcon 9 | Starlink Group 6-47 on Fri Apr 5, 2024 1:14 AM GMT-5 from SLC-40, Cape Canaveral SFS, Florida, USA
